Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam brings back art tattoo project

Visitors to the Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, can once again receive permanent tattoos based on original artwork by Rembrandt. Euronews reported that the initiative, called The Poor Man's Rembrandt Project, returned due to popular demand after it was first launched in 2023. [1]

The event brings tattoo artists directly into the historic house where Rembrandt once lived and worked. Associated Press correspondent Mike Corder, who originally covered the project in 2023, returned to receive a tattoo himself. [1]

Renowned Dutch tattoo artist Henk Schiffmacher, who is also known as Hanky Panky, inked the art onto Corder. He reproduced Rembrandt's 1630 etching titled Self-Portrait with Beret, Wide-Eyed onto Corder's arm in a session that took around half an hour. [1]

Rembrandt was born in Leiden in the Netherlands in July 1606. He trained under painter Jacob van Swanenburgh before studying in Amsterdam and eventually establishing his own studio, becoming famous for his dramatic artwork and etchings. [9]
