Protesters blocked access to the Louvre museum in Paris on Monday, according to reports by Euronews, Newsweek, Metro.co.uk, L'Unione Sarda.it, and MTV Lebanon. Management for the Louvre confirmed to the AFP news agency that the museum was unable to open as scheduled. [1][2][3][4][5]

Euronews reported that the demonstration was led by students from the Ecole du Louvre to back a nationwide student protest movement and denounce police repression. A leaflet outside the building declared that demonstrators were blocking the world's largest museum. Euronews added that protests originally started last month over conditions in high schools across France before expanding to address broader economic issues including the cost of living. [1]

L'Unione Sarda.it reported that more than 2,000 shops were looted over the weekend. Euronews reported that more than 2,330 people were involved in the nationwide actions. [1][4]

The Louvre Palace stands on the Right Bank of the Seine in Paris and opened as a museum in 1793. The venue holds more than 500,000 documented works across eight departments. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the museum has faced ongoing challenges, including a major robbery in October 2025 where historic crown jewels were stolen. [7][9][10][11]
