Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park along Highway 1 in Monterey County will partially reopen to visitors on October 16, the New York Post reported. The iconic California park has been closed to the public since late August after a massive wildfire swept through the area. [1]

The Timber Fire destroyed tens of thousands of acres near Big Sur and burned more than 500 acres inside the state park itself, according to the New York Post. Thousands of firefighters worked to battle the blaze while it burned in the surrounding Los Padres National Forest. [1]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, California's coastal regions have faced multiple emergency threats in recent months, including rare tropical storm watches in southern parts of the state. [5]

Officials confirmed that parts of the park will welcome visitors back on October 16 as recovery efforts continue following the fire. [1]
