North Korea conducted an underwater test of a new artificial intelligence powered torpedo weapon system, state news agency KCNA reported on Saturday. Euronews and the South China Morning Post both reported that the state media called the test a success. KCNA stated that the test involved the super speed and precisely guided Zam 2.0 torpedo system. The weapon uses artificial intelligence to assist with target detection and guidance, according to Euronews. The South China Morning Post reported that the test took place on Thursday to verify technological upgrades. Euronews added that the test verified the propulsion systems of the weapon, which the country claims is a significant step in its naval development. [1][2]

The torpedo demonstration follows tests of two types of underwater launched strategic cruise missiles on Wednesday, Euronews reported. As FTMQ News reported earlier, North Korea previously tested two submarine launched cruise missiles off its east coast after South Korea launched a domestically developed hypersonic missile. [1][13]

The recent tests come shortly after North Korea marked the 81st anniversary of the founding of the Workers Party of Korea on October 10, according to the Washington Examiner. Unlike the previous year, the event in Pyongyang featured celebratory performances rather than a military parade. [3]
