The National Football League is monitoring street violence across France ahead of a game between the New Orleans Saints and the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Stade de France, Fox News reported. The match, scheduled for next Sunday, is set to be the first regular season NFL game held in the country, as FTMQ News reported earlier. A league source told Fox News that there is no current plan to move the venue, but that decision could change if events warrant a relocation. [1][12]

Widespread unrest erupted across France on Saturday following demonstrations, according to Fox News and The Guardian. Peaceful marches involving 500,000 to 800,000 people devolved into clashes with police, looters targeting shops, and fires set to private property, Fox News reported. The South China Morning Post and Hindustan Times both report that looters smashed shop windows and snatched goods in Paris, with additional unrest, fires, and vandalism hitting cities such as Lyon and Limoges. [1][2][3][4]

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated that the Republic will not yield, according to The Guardian. Nunez posted on X that more than 1,800 people have been arrested in France following the Saturday protests. He added that more than 500 police officers, gendarmes, and firefighters sustained injuries, and noted that material damage to local businesses was considerable. [1][3]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, the NFL previously confirmed on Wednesday that the October 25 match would go ahead despite three weeks of social unrest. Prior to the latest weekend violence, an estimated 550,000 people took part in nationwide cost of living protests, leading to more than 1,200 arrests and a partial roof collapse at the Limoges town hall after a fire.
