A New York City man who spent nearly five months walking across the United States was robbed shortly after arriving in California on October 26, the New York Post reported. Bronx resident Chantz Rivera walked for 149 days to reach the West Coast, only to have his belongings stolen at a local restaurant. [1]
According to the New York Post, Rivera began his journey on May 31 and dragged all of his personal items in a shopping cart. After reaching San Francisco on October 26, he visited a McDonald's near Fillmore Street and Golden Gate Avenue. While at the location, a bag containing his portable charger and USB flash drives was taken. [1]
The New York Post reported that Rivera initially did not mind the theft because he felt tired and sick from his long trip. Rivera stated that he was simply exhausted when someone took the items. [1]
Long-distance walks are often conducted in groups, solo, or in pairs, with many participants seeking to promote social causes, highlight medical conditions, or gain personal experience. [2]
