Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for the United States Senate in Michigan, privately called Twitch streamer Hasan Piker to ask him to tone down his rhetoric as the election approaches. CNN and the New York Post reported that two sources confirmed El-Sayed warned Piker that the influencer's commentary was costing the Democratic campaign valuable votes. [1][3][6]

The request comes after El-Sayed previously campaigned alongside Piker, including appearing together at a pool party ahead of the Democratic primary against Representative Haley Stevens. Republicans have frequently used clips of Piker's past livestream remarks to link Democratic political candidates to the controversial political streamer. [1][4]

Piker has recently faced criticism over comments dividing American voters into good and bad categories based on race during an interview with New York Magazine. Fox News reported that a Democratic strategist accused the New Jersey born political influencer of racial profiling. The Washington Examiner also reported that Piker recently defended a 2019 remark where he stated the United States deserved the September 11 attacks. [2][4][10]

El-Sayed is an epidemiologist who previously worked as executive director of the Detroit Health Department and later led the Department of Health, Human and Veterans Services in Wayne County. Piker is an American left-wing political commentator and Twitch streamer who critiques capitalism and United States foreign policy. [6][7][9][10]
