Michael Carrick says Manchester United have moved on from Lisandro Martinez fallout

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick said on October 16 that the club has moved on following an explosive post-match interview by defender Lisandro Martinez. BBC News and the Daily Mail both reported that Carrick insisted he was telling the truth about resolving the issue. The comments followed United's 2-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday. [1][3][4]

According to Al Jazeera and the Daily Mail, Martinez apologised on Thursday after holding talks with Carrick, director of football Jason Wilcox, and other club executives. In his post-match interview, Martinez accused the Old Trafford board and Wilcox of failing in the transfer market last summer and stated that the club needed greater investment to compete at the highest level. The Daily Mail reported that other senior players are understood to share his views. [3][4][8]

BBC News reported that former United players Wayne Rooney, Roy Keane, and Gary Neville condemned the defender's comments. Rooney stated that the Argentine international could rip the dressing room apart with his attack on the club hierarchy. BBC News added that Martinez subsequently apologised for the timing of his remarks. [1]

Despite the fallout, Carrick claimed that his squad remains in a fantastic place, according to the Daily Mail. Manchester United will next face Leeds United in their upcoming fixture. [4][6]
