Bruno Fernandes to remain Manchester United captain after Michael Carrick talks

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has confirmed that Bruno Fernandes will remain as club captain, BBC News and the Daily Mail reported. Carrick stated that the midfielder is fully committed to the team ahead of their upcoming Premier League fixture against Chelsea. [1][3]

The announcement follows clear-the-air talks held between Carrick and Fernandes at United's Carrington training ground on Tuesday, according to BBC News and the Daily Mail. Carrick had dropped Fernandes to the bench for Sunday's 3-0 home loss against Bournemouth, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [1][3][4][11]

The decision to bench Fernandes occurred after the player publicly questioned the tactics used during a 4-1 Champions League loss to Como, BBC News reported. As FTMQ News reported earlier, United has experienced its worst start to a season in 40 years, putting intense speculation on Carrick's future at Old Trafford. [1][3][11][12]

The Daily Mail reported that United leadership decided this week to grant the 45-year-old manager more time to turn around the club's season. In another squad update, The Telegraph reported that striker Benjamin Sesko has been ruled out of action until January due to a new setback. [2][3]
