Man to face trial for murder of former Waterford trade union official

A 36-year-old man is set to stand trial accused of murdering a former trade union official and Waterford Crystal worker who died in August 2025.

A 36-year-old man is due to go on trial accused of the murder of a former trade union official and Waterford Crystal worker, RTE reported. The victim, Pat Fitzgerald, died following an incident in Waterford city over a year ago. [1]

David Norris, of Assumption Terrace, Rosbercon, New Ross, County Wexford, is charged with the murder of Mr Fitzgerald, according to RTE. Police discovered Mr Fitzgerald with injuries at a property in the St Catherine's Grange housing estate in Waterford city on the afternoon of Friday, 1 August 2025. [1]

Mr Fitzgerald was a father of three in his 70s and worked as a retired glassblower, RTE said. He was taken to University Hospital Waterford after he was found, where he was pronounced dead two days later. [1]
