Los Angeles launched a new network of automatic speed cameras on Monday morning, according to the New York Post. The initial wave of 20 cameras began operating during the morning commute to record speeding vehicles on major thoroughfares. [1]

Drivers caught speeding during the first 60 days starting October 26 will receive warnings by mail rather than immediate fines, the New York Post reported. Once the grace period ends, monetary penalties for the most severe speeding violations will reach up to $500. Two cameras located on La Cienega Boulevard were observed flashing repeatedly as early morning traffic passed. [1]

Los Angeles is the second-most populous city in the United States and serves as the commercial, financial, and cultural center of Southern California. With an estimated 3.87 million residents within the city limits as of 2025, the city features a sprawling metropolitan area that relies heavily on its road network. [8]

The implementation of automatic enforcement comes as local residents report heavy traffic activity near monitoring locations. A local resident near La Cienega Boulevard told news outlets that camera flashes were going off every few minutes near Pickford Street during morning travel. [1]
