The Los Angeles City Council voted on Friday to advance a new homelessness plan. According to the New York Post, local leaders are seeking to manage the city's homelessness crisis before hosting the 2028 Olympic Games. The plan consists of government programs, taxpayer-funded housing, and administrative measures. [1]
Data from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority shows that homelessness has grown locally. The New York Post reported that the city of Los Angeles recorded a 3.4% increase in its homeless population to 45,194 residents. Across Los Angeles County, the estimated homeless population reached 73,040 residents, which represents a 1.2% rise in 2026. [1]
The modern Olympic Games are international multi-sport events organized into Summer and Winter Games every four years. The event involves thousands of athletes representing more than 200 teams from sovereign states or territories. As FTMQ News reported earlier, other political figures in California have also proposed measures to address homeless encampments across the state. [6][8]
Preparations for the 2028 Summer Games extend beyond municipal policy. CBS Sports reported that United States U-23 men's soccer team coach Steve Cherundolo has named a roster for upcoming matches against Scotland and Ukraine. The group includes Parma player Benjamin Cremaschi, who competed in the 2024 Olympics. [2]
