Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton unveiled a plan at a news conference in San Diego to clear every homeless encampment in California by the end of next year, the New York Post reported today. Hilton stated that no one will get their life back on track on the streets. [1]

According to the New York Post, the proposal relies on a network of Homeless Recovery Centers modeled after the Sunbreak Ranch project in San Diego County. Campaign officials said the facilities would offer beds, meals, showers, medical care, drug treatment, psychiatric care, and job training. Each participant would be assigned someone to help them transition into stable housing with continued support. [1]

Hilton is the Republican nominee for Governor of California in the 2026 election. He previously served as director of strategy for British Prime Minister David Cameron between 2010 and 2012 before moving to California in 2012, becoming a United States citizen in 2021, and hosting a weekly show on Fox News Channel from 2017 to 2023. [6][8]

The announcement builds on previous campaign appearances across the state. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Hilton visited MacArthur Park in Los Angeles to criticize taxpayer funded harm reduction initiatives that distribute clean drug supplies. He has also released campaign advertisements targeting Democratic candidate Xavier Becerra ahead of the November 2026 gubernatorial election. [10][11]
