A long-lost painting by artist Georgia O'Keeffe has been discovered in an apartment closet in the East Village of New York City and is heading to auction, according to reports by the New York Post and Hyperallergic. The artwork had been hidden under fur coats for nearly 40 years and has never been seen publicly before. [1][2]

The New York Post reported that 65-year-old Betsy discovered the painting while helping her elderly aunt clean out her residence. The artwork is valued at around $3 million. [1]

O'Keeffe was an American modernist painter recognised for her artwork depicting natural forms and landscapes. Born in Wisconsin in 1887, she experimented early in her career with abstract charcoal drawings before gaining international acclaim. [3][5]
