Wuraola Alabi was sentenced to 200 hours of community service in lieu of 12 months in custody when she appeared before Judge John King at Carlow District Court recently. The Irish Examiner reported that the 48-year-old woman from Branswood, Athy, County Kildare, used an elderly man's bank account to make fraudulent purchases at Brown Thomas and Dublin Airport. [1]

The court heard that 17 fraudulent transactions were identified on the victim's Bank of Ireland account between June 26 and June 29, 2025. The Irish Examiner reported that these unauthorized purchases had a combined total value of 2,289.04 euros. [1]

Judge King described the crime as clearly planned and clearly premeditated, adding that Alabi was lucky to avoid a prison sentence. Brown Thomas is an upmarket chain of five luxury department stores operating across Ireland. [1][3][7]
