A Dublin-based woman has been jailed for an elaborate financial scam that defrauded a Cork man of more than 65,000 euros over a three-year period. Judge Sinéad Behan imposed a three-year sentence with the final year suspended. The accused had been in a romantic relationship with the victim during the time of the fraud. [1]

The Irish Examiner reported that 40-year-old Laura Pennick took out loans in the victim's name without his knowledge. She also borrowed money directly from him and made unauthorized purchases using his financial cards, leaving him to bear the losses. In a statement, the victim described himself as a broken man and stated that she drained every penny out of him. [1]

During the sentencing, Judge Behan noted that Laura Pennick had previous convictions for similar financial crimes involving the fraud of other individuals. The case was investigated by Detective Garda Mark. [1]
