The White House has offered Katie Zacharia the position of press secretary to replace Karoline Leavitt, the Washington Examiner reported on Friday. A White House official confirmed the job offer to the Washington Examiner. USA Today and the New York Post also reported that Zacharia has been chosen for the role to succeed Leavitt. [1][10][11]

Zacharia currently serves as a senior communications adviser for Truth Social, President Donald Trump's social media company, according to the Washington Examiner. The New York Times reported that Zacharia is a conservative commentator who previously worked at the Department of Homeland Security. [1][2]

The White House press secretary acts as the main spokesperson for the executive branch of the United States federal government, representing the president, senior aides, and government policies. Donald Trump assumed office as the 47th president of the United States on January 20, 2025. [12][14]

The appointment comes as the administration faces legal challenges over press credentials. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Department of Justice lawyers recently defended the administration's authority in court to ban specific news outlets from the White House if they fail to meet professionalism standards.
