Representative Jim Jordan has emerged as a potential contender for House minority leader as House Republicans prepare for a leadership change if Democrats win control of the chamber in November, Fox News reported. Several House Republicans told Fox News Digital that they expect to lose their majority in the upcoming election. One House Republican lawmaker said that Speaker Mike Johnson would likely be the first leader replaced, followed by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise. [1]

The potential leadership change comes as Republicans attempt to hold their small House majority in tight races across the country. According to Fox News Digital, Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks is facing former Democratic state Representative Christina Bohannan in Iowa's 1st Congressional District, which is considered one of the closest races in the nation. Polling indicates that voters across the country favor Democratic control of Congress. A poll conducted by Quinnipiac University found that Pennsylvania voters favor Democrats to win control of the United States House of Representatives by 15 points. [4]

House Republican leaders are currently pushing the Senate to pass legislation making daylight saving time permanent following calls from President Donald Trump, Fox News Digital reported. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise told Fox News Digital that extra daylight provides more time for families, businesses, and safer communities. [3]
