Metropolitan Police officers are to question former Democratic Unionist Party leader Jeffrey Donaldson behind bars regarding a sexual assault claim, according to independent.ie and the Belfast Telegraph. Donaldson is accused of sexually assaulting a woman inside his House of Commons office in 2016. [1][3]
The Times previously reported that the former politician was jailed for 15 years. His imprisonment follows a conviction in June for 18 sex offences involving two children, including one count of rape, as FTMQ News reported earlier. As FTMQ News also reported, his wife Eleanor Donaldson was found to have aided and abetted the crimes following a trial of the facts. [4][9][10]
The Daily Mail reports that a For Sale sign stands outside Donaldson's former home, located 19 kilometres from his prison cell, where he lived for 22 years. [2]
Donaldson served as the leader of the Democratic Unionist Party from 2021 until 2024. He stepped down from his political leadership role following his initial arrest for child sex offences. [5]
