Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to restart peace negotiations mediated by the United States, the Washington Examiner reported. Speaking to reporters in Cincinnati on Thursday morning before travelling to Nebraska, Vance cautioned that a peace deal would not be signed quickly. [1]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, Moscow and Kyiv agreed to a proposal for a technical meeting between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States. That agreement followed a meeting in Saint Petersburg between United States envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Moscow previously indicated that negotiations could resume as early as next month, with Russian official Yuri Ushakov suggesting Abu Dhabi as a potential location. [4][5]
The diplomatic moves come alongside continued fighting. Russian missiles hit Kyiv overnight, injuring six people and forcing residents into shelters, as FTMQ News reported earlier. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has led the country through the full-scale invasion that began in February 2022, previously stated that he is open to freezing front lines to achieve a ceasefire.
