Texas State Representative James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for the United States Senate, stated that he regrets how he phrased past remarks about religion and sex, the Washington Examiner reported. Talarico did not walk back his previous comments that God is nonbinary and that six sexes exist, but told The New York Times that his choice of words obscured the message he intended to convey. [1]

According to the Washington Examiner, Talarico said he is not a perfect person. He explained that he originally made the controversial comments because he felt compelled to fight back against Republican political arguments in the Texas Legislature. [1]

The candidate recently faced scrutiny after missing in-person campaign events, as FTMQ News reported earlier. Talarico took a 12-day break from the campaign trail in Texas after contracting the flu, which prompted Republican opponent Ken Paxton to circulate mock missing person flyers mocking his absence.
