Leaked internal Slack messages obtained by the New York Post show that social media influencers supporting Democratic candidate James Talarico expressed private concerns over his 12-day absence from the Texas Senate campaign trail. CNN and the New York Post both reported that the extended public absence has become a line of attack for Texas Republicans. [1][2][3]
According to the New York Post, Talarico last held an in-person public campaign event on gas prices on September 26. The outlet noted that Talarico, who has type 1 diabetes, later attended a private fundraiser in New York City with actor Robert De Niro on September 28 and appeared at a virtual Hispanic Business Council forum on September 30. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Talarico canceled multiple campaign appearances after coming down with the flu. His Republican opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, subsequently targeted him by circulating mock missing person flyers across the state. [5]
Talarico is an educator, Presbyterian seminarian, and member of the Texas House of Representatives who won the Democratic nomination for the 2026 United States Senate election in Texas. Previous coverage by FTMQ News noted that super PACs supporting his bid have received millions of dollars in funding, including major contributions from LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman. [3][6]
