Israeli military forces have withdrawn from the city of Hebron in the southern occupied West Bank following a 10-day siege, Al Jazeera reported. On Monday, Hebron Governor Khaled Dudin announced that Palestinian security forces took full control of the area after the Israeli pullout. He added that families who were forced to leave their homes can now return. [1]
Governor Dudin stated that relevant authorities and Palestinian security forces are monitoring developments on the ground to provide safe conditions for returning residents, Al Jazeera reported. The Israeli military originally imposed the siege on Hebron on October 23. [1]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, the military blockade restricted movement across 10 access points in the city. The siege forcibly displaced almost 5,000 residents, including 336 infants and 441 elderly residents. The operation began after Palestinian gunmen killed two Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint near the city. [5][6]
Hebron is a historic city in the southern West Bank with a Palestinian population of approximately 220,000 to 240,000 people. During the broader Gaza war, Israeli forces have conducted multiple ground incursions into West Bank cities and refugee camps, leading to regular clashes with Palestinian militants. [2][4][5]
