Palestinians in Gaza continue to die due to ongoing attacks, medical aid restrictions, and delayed evacuations, Al Jazeera reported. The report comes one year after a ceasefire was announced on October 10 last year. Medical workers had hoped the pause in fighting would allow time to restore hospitals and bring in essential supplies. [1]
The medical system remains unable to recover as doctors struggle to treat patients without regular shipments of equipment and medicine, according to Al Jazeera. Gaza's exhausted healthcare workers have also faced severe difficulties in arranging overseas medical evacuations and bringing in support teams. [1]
The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas led an attack in which 1,195 Israelis and foreign nationals were killed and 251 were taken hostage. Over 74,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed since the Israeli military offensive started. [2]
Medical workers have faced detention during the conflict, as FTMQ News reported earlier. Six United States lawmakers previously called for the release of doctor Hussam Abu Safia, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, who has been held by Israel without charge since 2024. [4]
