The demonstrations have involved widespread street unrest. Business Today and The Times of India reported that the protests turned violent, with streets gripped by tear gas and fireworks. The Times of India also reported that former United States President Donald Trump blamed migration and Islam for the unrest in France. [5][6]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, the nationwide protests began on 21 September 2026 over poor conditions in French schools. The movement escalated after trade unions and teachers joined high school students in nationwide walkouts and blockades, causing up to 500 high schools to close. Tear gas was fired by riot police, and the French Interior Ministry recorded 1,949 arrests on 1 October 2026 alone. During the demonstrations, a teenage student lost a hand after picking up a police grenade. [7][8]
