High school students in Sevran, a town north-east of Paris, are continuing protests over severe lack of classroom resources, according to the Guardian. A seventeen year old student told the Guardian that classes are so crowded that some students have to stand because there are not enough desks or chairs to go around. [1]
Students say that the conditions are so poor that demonstrations must go on, even though they want to return to class, the Guardian reported. The protests follow weeks of widespread action, as FTMQ News reported earlier, after high school students began protesting against missing teachers and dilapidated school buildings in late September. [1][6]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, more than 250,000 people took to the streets across France in recent mass demonstrations over education conditions, including tens of thousands in Paris. During those earlier protests, the French Interior Ministry recorded nearly 2,000 arrests as police used tear gas and water cannon against marchers. [6][7]
Demonstrators continue to demand extra financial resources, better classroom facilities, and an end to teacher shortages, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [6][7]
