French Member of the European Parliament Jean-Marc Germain has criticised the management of recent unrest in France, describing public order in the country as a big failure of the government. Euronews reported that Germain spoke out after demonstrations and violent incidents affected France over the previous weekend. Germain stated that current public order policies allow rioters to destroy shops and public buildings. [1]
Despite his criticism of the authorities, Germain stated that French President Emmanuel Macron should not resign. He insisted that political changes must take place through democratic elections. Germain belongs to the Socialists and Democrats group in the European Parliament, where he was elected in 2024. [1][4]
Germain is a French politician in the Socialist Party and serves as cabinet director to Martine Aubry. He is also married to Anne Hidalgo, the former Mayor of Paris. His comments follow ongoing violent protests across France. As FTMQ News reported earlier, French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu recently requested partial and localized curfews from regional authorities to protect businesses during the unrest. [4][8]
