Raphael Glucksmann is seeking to lead the French Socialists to power in the upcoming 2027 presidential election without allying with left-populist Jean-Luc Melenchon, DW reported. DW noted that Melenchon remains particularly popular with young voters, presenting a challenge for the center-left candidate. [1]
The 46-year-old member of the European Parliament celebrated his primary victory in the Parisian neighborhood of Belleville, according to DW. DW reported that Glucksmann, who is the son of philosopher and essayist Andre Glucksmann, won a convincing victory in the first round with 66 percent of the vote. [1]
The primary election was held online from October 9 to October 11, 2026, to choose a candidate backed by the Socialist Party, Place Publique, and the Republican and Socialist Left. Glucksmann won 66.13 percent of the vote, which made a planned second round unnecessary. As FTMQ News reported earlier, around 140,000 voters participated in the contest, where Glucksmann defeated Olivier Faure and Segolene Royal. [2][5][6]
Following his nomination, Glucksmann urged the French center-left to fight against a potential far-right victory in the 2027 presidential election, as FTMQ News reported earlier. He now faces the task of convincing young and working-class voters to support his campaign. [1][5]
