Four people, including a man, a woman and two children, have died after a house fire in Waterford city in the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday morning. Two other children were critically injured in the blaze, BBC News and the Irish Times both reported. Independent.ie, RTÉ, the Irish Examiner, the Irish Independent, Waterford Live, Newstalk, Dublin Live and Beat 102-103 also confirmed that two adults and two children died in the incident. Waterford Fire Service was alerted to the fire at 05:13 local time at a two-storey house on Birchwood Avenue, according to BBC News and the Irish Times. Emergency services arrived to find a well-developed fire and pulled several casualties from the home before putting out the blaze, BBC News reported. Emergency workers remained at the scene off Killure Road while Irish broadcaster RTÉ reported that at least one body had been removed. [1][3][4]

The two injured children were initially taken to University Hospital Waterford before being transferred to a better-resourced hospital in Dublin, according to the Irish Times. Irish police, known as Gardaí, said they have set up an incident room and are appealing for witnesses and video footage, the Irish Times and the Irish Examiner reported. Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane urged the public not to speculate about the cause of the fire. [3][5]
