Fort Hood victims daughter opposes plan to livestream killers execution

The daughter of a Fort Hood shooting victim has strongly criticized a plan to broadcast the execution of gunman Nidal Malik Hasan live. Keely Cahill Vanacker told CNN on Monday that livestreaming the event has nothing to do with justice and does not bring closure to families. Her father, Michael Cahill, was one of 13 people killed in the 2009 attack. [1][2][5][8][9]

The New York Post and the Daily Mail reported that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced President Donald Trump had approved the plan. The execution by firing squad is scheduled to be broadcast live on December 3. Fox News reported that members of the public have also spoken out against the plan, describing it as absurd and a shame. Vanacker said she learned about the scheduled broadcast from her son, who saw it on social media. She stated that the broadcast turns a tragedy into entertainment. Fort Hood survivor Julia Wilson also told Fox News Digital that while she wants Hasan executed, she has reservations about broadcasting his death live. [1][7]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Hasan was sentenced to death for killing 13 people and injuring 32 others during the 2009 attack at the military post located near Killeen, Texas. House Speaker Mike Johnson previously urged Donald Trump to cancel the livestream over concerns it could be used as a terrorist recruitment tool. [11][13][14]
