Endangered birds to limit flood prevention works in two Cork villages
A report commissioned by Cork County Council has revealed that the presence of endangered birds will restrict flood prevention efforts in Inchigeelagh and Ballingeary.

The presence of endangered birds in the Co Cork villages of Inchigeelagh and Ballingeary will significantly limit future flood prevention works, the Irish Examiner reported. A draft bird survey commissioned by Cork County Council identified significant ecological sensitivities in both locations, which are situated along the upper River Lee. [1]
According to the Irish Examiner, reports covering mammal and aquatic life in the environmentally sensitive areas are still pending. Environmental concerns raised by the National Parks and Wildlife Service previously halted flood relief plans in the area. Inchigeelagh was approved for Office of Public Works minor works funding in 2017, but the project did not proceed. [1]
Cork County Council has recently focused on managing environmental issues across the region. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the council removed an abandoned boat from Kinsale harbour and has faced calls from local councillors to address other deserted vessels in Glengarriff and Castletownbere. [4]
