President Donald Trump is considering a significant military strike on Iran to display American power before the crucial midterm elections. The Daily Mail and Fox News both reported that the White House is weighing military action, with the Daily Mail citing two White House officials who stated that Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth was asked to assemble potential strike options. This potential action comes as the President attempts to show voters a position of strength. [1][6]
The consideration of new strikes follows a decline in the President's favorability ratings since initial strikes against Iran began in February. According to the Daily Mail, Democrats are currently favored to take control of the House of Representatives and have a chance to regain the Senate. Additionally, The Guardian reported on leaked audio in which Texas Republican Ken Paxton privately admitted that the war in Iran and rising gas prices are causing serious political problems for Republican candidates. [1][7]
The United States and Israel have been engaged in a war against Iran and its regional allies since 28 February 2026. The conflict opened with hundreds of air strikes across Iran, which resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei along with several other Iranian officials. [12][14]
Economic and security concerns related to the conflict continue to grow in the United States. Fox Business reported that President Donald Trump floated a suspension of the federal gas tax and claimed oil prices will drop rapidly once the war ends. Meanwhile, NBC News reported that Trump claimed the United States is protecting its cities, after previously suggesting that Iran could target major locations such as Los Angeles or San Diego.
