Director Peter Berg has announced that his upcoming Call of Duty feature film will focus on a serious tone and explore the cost of war. Fox News and Kotaku both report that the movie is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on June 30, 2028. Berg revealed the details during a press junket for another military film he directed, The Mosquito Bowl, according to Kotaku. [1][2]

The project is being produced by Paramount Pictures and features a screenplay written by Berg alongside Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, according to Kotaku and Fox News. Kotaku reported that the story takes place within the Modern Warfare continuity of events. Berg stated that the film will avoid cartoon characters or comic book tropes, focusing instead on a nuanced depiction of warriors. [1][2]

The video game franchise has maintained a dominant presence in the industry, as FTMQ News reported earlier. Activision released Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 on October 23, 2026. FTMQ News also previously reported that actress Inde Navarrette expressed interest in joining the cast of the Sheridan and Berg project. [8][9]

Berg is currently promoting his World War Two sports drama, The Mosquito Bowl, which IndieWire reported is a Netflix film starring Ray Nicholson and Bill Skarsgård.
