Democratic candidates are leading their Republican opponents in seven key battleground states in the final polling before Election Day. The Washington Examiner, Fox News, and Forbes report that a survey by The New York Times and Siena College shows Democrats ahead in races ranging from Texas to Alaska. Several of these contests fall within states that President Donald Trump carried in 2024. [1][9][10]

The lead sizes vary across the states, with several remaining within the margins of error of the polls. According to the Washington Examiner, low approval ratings for Donald Trump are weighing on the Republican Party ahead of the voting. As FTMQ News reported earlier, late-deciding voters in seven key races favoured Republicans by nine points, even as Democrats kept an overall lead. [1][16]

In Alaska, a judge dismissed an attempt by Donald Trump to block the state Senate election results if the Republican candidate loses, according to NPR, The Washington Post, and The Guardian. Meanwhile, the New York Post reports that allies of Donald Trump are preparing for potential legal bills reaching into the millions if Democrats take control of Congress and launch investigations. [5][7]

The upcoming United States midterm elections are scheduled for November 3, 2026. Voters will decide all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate to determine the 120th Congress. [12]
