Dominick McCarthy, aged 20, of 20 Kilmore Heights, Knocknaheeny, appeared in Cork District Court on Thursday, the Irish Examiner reported. Detective Garda Michael Abernethy charged the accused with multiple offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act following a search at a house in Knocknaheeny last February. [1]
According to the Irish Examiner, officers seized cannabis with an estimated street value of 47,000 euros and cocaine worth over 3,000 euros during the raid. Mr McCarthy is charged with possessing cannabis and having the drug for the purpose of sale or supply. [1]
The Irish Examiner reported that Mr McCarthy also faces a charge of money laundering involving 4,930 euros, which he allegedly possessed as the proceeds of crime. Judge Waters stated that the matter would not ultimately be dealt with in Cork District Court because of the high value of the seized drugs. [1]
The court appearance follows other major drug operations in Ireland, as FTMQ News reported earlier. In February 2024, Irish authorities made the largest crystal meth seizure in the country at Cork Port, which led to charges against a Kerry man at the Special Criminal Court. [2]
