A community-led organisation has announced plans to build a 7.5 million euro museum dedicated to the sinking of the Lusitania at the Old Head of Kinsale in County Cork. The Irish Examiner reported that Cork County Council granted planning permission for the expansion of the museum at the site. [1]

The new facility will be built next to an old signal house that the group renovated in 2015, beside a garden of remembrance that was created in 2017. The Irish Examiner reported that the project aims to establish the first dedicated museum in the world to commemorate the maritime disaster. [1]

The Old Head of Kinsale is a headland located near Kinsale in County Cork, Ireland. The sinking of the Lusitania at the location was one of the worst maritime disasters in history and ultimately led to the United States joining the Allies against Germany during the First World War. [1][2]
