Bangladeshi authorities demanded answers from Saudi Arabia on Monday after two Bangladeshi citizens were executed last week, UPI, Middle East Eye, and the BBC reported. The executed individuals were a married couple who were put to death in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. The BBC, Middle East Eye, and AP News reported that Bangladesh was not informed about the executions beforehand. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]

According to UPI, AP News, and ClickOnDetroit, the couple was executed over alleged indecent acts that took place inside a mosque in Mecca. NewsCord reported that the death sentences were confirmed by a court prior to the executions. Officials in Bangladesh stated that Saudi authorities failed to notify them of either the original incident or the subsequent execution. [1][8][9][10]

Humaiun Kobir, the minister of foreign affairs for Bangladesh, stated that his government has sought an explanation from Saudi Arabia to determine why a gap in information sharing occurred, UPI reported. Middle East Eye and The News Pakistan confirmed that Bangladesh is seeking a formal explanation from Saudi Arabian officials regarding the lack of notice. [1][2][6]

Mecca is located in Saudi Arabia and is recognized as one of the holiest cities in Islam. The legal system in Saudi Arabia is based on Sharia law, which enforces strict conservative religious standards and guidelines across the country. [11][13]
