Apple TV releases trailer for Judy Heumann biopic Being Heumann

Apple TV released a trailer on Monday for the biographical film Being Heumann, UPI reported. The movie stars Ruth Madeley as disability rights activist Judy Heumann and is directed by Sian Heder, according to UPI and IndieWire. [1][2]

UPI reported that the film will be released in November. The story is based on the memoir of Heumann and focuses on her fight for disability rights, including her role in the 1977 occupation of a federal building to push for changes to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, UPI said. [1]

According to IndieWire, the film opened the Toronto International Film Festival. The feature is Heder's directorial follow-up to her Academy Award Best Picture winner CODA, IndieWire reported. [2]

The film also features Mark Ruffalo alongside Madeley. It is an adaptation of the book Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist. Heumann was an American civil rights advocate known as the mother of the disability rights movement, who led initiatives at the World Bank and the State Department. [7][8]
