Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese pledged a swift government response to safety threats made against politicians and their staff, the Guardian reported. Speaking to the Labor partyroom, Albanese raised the possibility of providing duress alarms for electorate offices, stating that politicians and staff have endured safety threats for too long. [1]

The prime minister made his remarks shortly after Senator Fatima Payman criticized her former government colleagues regarding the lack of staffing provided to her office. Payman questioned whether the prime minister was waiting for a serious incident to occur before taking action. [1]

Albanese has served as the 31st prime minister of Australia since 2022 and has led the Labor Party since 2019. He has represented the New South Wales seat of Grayndler as a member of Parliament since 1996. [2]

Before becoming prime minister, Albanese served as the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport under the Rudd and Gillard governments. He originally joined the Labor Party at age 15 and earned a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney. [3]
