Prime Minister Andy Burnham unequivocally condemned a Green Party motion on Israel during Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday afternoon, describing it as wrong and antisemitic, the Daily Mail reported. The condemnation came after a senior Conservative MP asked Mr Burnham to rule out any future Labour Party coalitions with the Green Party. The BBC also reported that Mr Burnham faced questions during the parliamentary session. [1][6][7]

The Daily Mail reported that the controversial motion, titled Zionism is Racism, was passed at the Green Party conference in Brighton earlier this month. The motion called for Israel to be treated like apartheid South Africa, which critics branded as a plan to destroy Israel itself. [1]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Green Party leader Zack Polanski previously expressed a desire to change the policy, though party rules could delay any change for two years. The New Statesman and the BBC noted that Labour candidate Sagal Abdi-Wali recently defeated Mr Polanski in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election. [5][12]

Andrew Murray Burnham has served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Labour Party since July 2026. Before becoming Prime Minister, he served as Member of Parliament for Makerfield and previously held the role of Mayor of Greater Manchester from 2017 to 2026. [8]
