Amazon has pledged over 1 billion dollars to support communities neighboring its data centers while facing ongoing scrutiny over environmental impacts.

Ars Technica reported that Amazon has committed to donating more than 1 billion dollars over the next five years to communities located near its data centers. Amazon Web Services Chief Executive Officer Matt Garman stated in a press release that local communities will decide how to allocate these funds across education, job training, energy affordability, water preservation, and local priorities.
