Women candidates could make historic gains in the United States midterm elections on November 3, DW reported. Voters will decide races across the country for the United States Congress and state governors. [1]

Women make up around 51 percent of the United States population, DW reported. However, female politicians hold only 28.4 percent of the seats in the United States Congress. [1]

Despite the disparity, female representation in federal and state leadership is at a record high, according to DW. Currently, 152 women serve across the House of Representatives and Senate, while 14 women serve as state governors, representing 28 percent of the 50 state executives. [1]

During previous midterm elections held in November 2018 under President Donald Trump, the Democratic Party won control of the House of Representatives to end unified Republican control of Congress, Wikipedia records show. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 Senate seats were contested in those races. [2]
