Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told United States senators during a virtual meeting that the American military is intentionally delaying deliveries of Patriot interceptor missiles, the Washington Examiner reported. According to the Washington Examiner, Zelensky stated that the delays are happening even though NATO has already paid for the air defense system equipment. [1]
Zelensky also raised concerns about restrictions on military grade technology. France 24 and The Hill both reported that Zelensky criticized speed limits placed on the Starshield satellite system. According to France 24, Zelensky said frontline units reported that Starshield equipment stops functioning at speeds of 130 to 160 kilometres per hour, which hinders Ukraine from coordinating drone strikes against Russian forces. A Democratic senator confirmed that Zelensky raised issues regarding incomplete access to Starshield and intelligence sharing, according to The Hill. [1][2][3]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk stated that any restrictions on the Starshield network are controlled by President Donald Trump and the United States government rather than SpaceX. Starshield is a military adaptation of the Starlink communications network operated by SpaceX to provide capabilities such as tracking and reconnaissance. [4]
The complaints come during a period of rising strain between the two governments. The Washington Examiner reported that Zelensky held the virtual meeting with a bipartisan group of senators as his relationship with President Donald Trump deteriorates. [1]
