Representative Suhas Subramanyam, a Virginia Democrat, confirmed on Monday that his district office in Leesburg received mail containing a suspicious white powder. UPI reported that the discovery led to the immediate evacuation of the office as local authorities responded to the scene. [1][2]
In a statement shared on social media, Subramanyam thanked the Leesburg Police, Loudoun County Fire and Rescue, their Hazmat team, and the Capitol Police for their swift response. He stated that acts of political intimidation have no place in the country, according to UPI. [1]
The incident is part of a broader wave of targeted mailings across the country. As FTMQ News reported earlier, envelopes containing suspicious white powder were received on Friday at the offices of Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Susan Collins, with more than a dozen lawmakers targeted overall. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Capitol Police are investigating those incidents. [1][5]
Similar packages have also been directed at election officials in recent days. FTMQ News previously reported that election offices in Ohio, Louisiana, and Oklahoma were targeted, leading Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry to close her Baton Rouge office after an employee opened a package.
