Vice President JD Vance will announce on Wednesday that the federal anti-fraud task force he leads has uncovered $40 million in welfare fraud, Fox News reported. The announcement includes criminal charges against more than 40 suspects involved in the alleged scheme. [1]
According to a source familiar with the charges who spoke to Fox News Digital, the charges are part of an ongoing administration crackdown on fraud nationwide. The new findings bring the total amount of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program fraud uncovered by the task force to $641 million. Fox News also reported that more than 1,000 retailers have been banned from the program due to violations. [1]
The anti-fraud task force led by Vance previously addressed other instances of federal fund misuse. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Vance stated he was open to investigating allegations that Planned Parenthood misused federal funds after nearly 130 Republican lawmakers requested an inquiry from the Department of Health and Human Services. [5]
Federal investigations into benefit fraud follow other recent local enforcement actions. As FTMQ News reported earlier, a Pennsylvania welfare supervisor named Sheila McDonald was charged with siphoning $20,558.61 in food stamp benefits after investigators linked her to 48 stolen EBT cards used in over 270 illegal transactions.
