United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer warned on Monday that a 3.4 billion dollar European Investment Bank loan to Airbus could jeopardise a tariff truce between Washington and Brussels. France 24 reported that Greer urged the European Union to resolve the matter quickly. [1]
According to France 24, Greer stated that his office had received no details regarding the financing, which was approved by the bloc's investment bank in June. President Donald Trump's top trade official emphasized that the multibillion dollar loan puts the existing trade arrangement at risk. [1]
The competition between Airbus and Boeing has formed a duopoly in the large jet airliner market since the 1990s. Airbus achieved prominence with its fuel-efficient A320 family aircraft and briefly overtook Boeing as the largest commercial aircraft manufacturer by deliveries in 2019. [3][5]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, Airbus chief executive Guillaume Faury previously addressed trade and defense concerns when he warned the United Kingdom that selecting an American firm for a military satellite contract could reduce the role of the UK in European space manufacturing. [6]
