The United States Supreme Court will hear a case to decide whether a law enacted in 1988 to protect video rental privacy applies to the internet age, UPI and The Washington Post both report. The legal dispute centers on the modern application of digital video tracking software. [1][2]

According to UPI, Congress passed the Video Privacy Protection Act in 1988 following the unsuccessful Supreme Court nomination of Robert Bork. A journalist in Washington obtained and published details regarding the video rental records of the family of Bork, which generated anger among lawmakers. [1]

The Supreme Court of the United States serves as the highest court within the federal judiciary of the nation. It holds final appellate jurisdiction over federal cases and state matters that involve federal or constitutional law. [13]
