The Democratic Party's sweep of Congress in the United States midterm elections may encourage Israel's opposition to overcome internal divisions and build a coalition government, the Guardian reported. The election outcome increases the urgency for opposition groups to unseat Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has maintained a close political alliance with Republican President Donald Trump. [1]

Israeli political figures are evaluating the election results alongside a broader shift in United States politics that could alter conditions for future Israeli leaders, according to the Guardian. Neither the ruling bloc nor the opposition currently holds a clear pathway to securing a parliamentary majority following recent elections in Israel, the Washington Examiner reported. [1][2]

The developments follow an inconclusive Israeli general election where neither side secured an immediate path to power, as FTMQ News reported earlier. Israeli President Isaac Herzog received certified election results from the Central Elections Committee and initiated formal consultations with party representatives. Herzog is scheduled to announce which political leader will receive the initial mandate to attempt government formation. [8][9]

Former military chief Gadi Eisenkot received 67 recommendations to take over as prime minister from Benjamin Netanyahu, as FTMQ News reported earlier. A majority of 61 seats in the 120-seat Knesset is required to establish a functioning government in Israel. Meanwhile, 1,000 Diaspora Jews have signed an appeal calling on Israeli opposition leaders to form a unified front, Jewish News reported. [4][9]
