This is an update to our earlier report: Two Latvian nationals arrested after fence breach at RAF Molesworth
Two Latvian men arrested after entering RAF Molesworth have been released on bail, according to reports by Cambridge News, The Hunts Post, Sky News, and The Guardian. Counter Tourism Policing is continuing to investigate the incident. The Hunts Post reported that the men, aged 32 and 36, were released with strict conditions after being taken to a Cambridgeshire police station. [1][2][3][7]
According to Wales Online and Devon Live, the men were initially held on suspicion of trespass on a protected site and criminal damage. Metropolitan Police confirmed they were subsequently rearrested under Section 4 of the National Security Act 2023. Forces News reported that Defence Secretary Wes Streeting thanked the security teams involved, noting that the protection of such military sites is multi-layered. [6][8][9]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, the two suspects are Latvian nationals who live in the United Kingdom. Security patrols by the Ministry of Defence Police discovered an abandoned vehicle near the base perimeter at 22:00 BST on October 7. Officers from Cambridgeshire Constabulary and the Ministry of Defence Police subsequently identified a small breach in the perimeter fence before finding the two men inside the base boundary.
