British cyclist Tom Pidcock said he wanted to stop racing after two of his teammates were hit by a police vehicle during the Tre Valli Varesine race in Varese, Italy, BBC News reported. The police vehicle was travelling the wrong way down the course when the incident occurred with six laps of the finishing circuit remaining. [1]

According to BBC News, the incident involved Pidcock's Pinarello-Q36.5 teammates Marcel Camprubi and Thomas Gloag. Camprubi of Spain was able to continue racing, but Gloag, who is also British, was forced to stop and required medical attention. [1]

Pidcock competes in cyclo-cross, mountain bike, and road bicycle racing disciplines for the Swiss Pinarello-Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team. He previously rode for UCI WorldTeam Netcompany-Ineos before his release in December 2024. [2]

Despite his anger over the safety incident, Pidcock finished the one-day Italian race in second place behind Belgium's Jarno Widar, BBC News reported. [1]
